GARMCO Adapts Cloud-based ICT through Amazon Web Services

As part of their corporate social responsibility, Bahrain-based Gulf Aluminium Rolling Mill (GARMCO), one of the largest downstream aluminium facilities in the Middle East has taken an initiative towards achieving the company’s environmental protection goals by implementing a greener ICT. In order to implement Green ICT, one of the practical measures is to adapt a cloud-based system.

In collaboration with Almoayyed Computers, GARMCO has successfully started the migration of some of their ICT infrastructure workloads to Amazon Web Services (AWS). The company website, www.garmco.com, has transferred to AWS through several applications such as the Employee Self-service, the Survey Portal and storing of database audit logs and reports.

The website uses a specific content management system to publish dynamic content, careers management system to cater to prospective candidates for job opportunities at GARMCO. This also includes information for all its subsidiaries at Australia, Europe, Thailand, Singapore and USA.

The in-house developed online e-Tendering application that allows vendors to bid online for RFQ’s will also be migrated to AWS soon.

GARMCO’s General Manager, Mr. Mohammed Essa, believes that this initiative ‘Will pave the path towards further technology enhancements resulting in increased productivity, agility and reduced operation costs.’

‘Keeping up with the technological enhancements will support GARMCO in attaining its values of Innovation & Customer Satisfaction.” added Mohammed.

In accordance with their environmental initiative, GARMCO will continuously look for opportunities to migrate additional workloads and services to cloud over time.

Almoayyed Computers CEO, Mr. S.M. Hussaini stated that Technology is an enabler of many objectives – be it business or CSR and the Cloud delivers very well on the promise of enablement. “We are happy to be associated with GARMCO in this initiative and we are confident that Cloud adoption across various workload will happen successfully and we remain committed to that.”
