GARMCO collaborates with Gulf City Cleaning Company to provide waste sorting containers to collect plastic waste
As part of its corporate, social and environmental responsibility towards the society and community and its concern regarding resources stability, Gulf Aluminium Rolling Mill (GARMCO), the Bahrain-based international aluminium rolling mill and one of the largest downstream aluminium facilities in the Middle East, announces its “Go Green Charity Drive” in partnership with Gulf City Cleaning Company (GCCC).
This initiative comes in line with the two companies efforts in raising awareness of the importance of sorting and recycling waste for a greener environment, in addition to supporting charities by generating much-needed funds through recycling waste to support worthy causes.
GCCC has provided GARMCO with blue sorting plastic waste containers labeled with awareness stickers related to the drive. The containers are distributed in different locations across GARMCO’s premises to collect the plastic waste. All proceeds of selling the collected plastic waste will be donated to the Bahrain Association for Parents and Friends of the Disabled to purchase wheelchairs for people with special needs, as part of their ongoing campaign, titled “Recycle it, instead of throwing it”.
This initiative aims to encourage all staff to sort and put all plastic waste used at their homes or in the workplace in the specially provided containers. Moreover, big special bags are provided to all employees to help with the plastic waste collection.
Mr. Fawzi Abdullah Nass, CEO of Gulf City Cleaning Company stated, “The company is committed in providing all its support for recycling and sorting initiatives, especially for the ones that benefits the community and the public”. He also emphasized on the fact that “all big companies around the world are now focusing and investing on the awareness of waste management and changing the practice of waste disposal due to its importance and the positive impact it has on the society, environment and the economy. Therefore, Gulf City Cleaning Company undertakes a social and economic responsibility in motivating and encouraging everyone on sorting and recycling waste in a more proper and beneficial way”.
“We are very optimistic to be in a real partnership with the one of the largest companies in the Kingdom of Bahrain, especially in regards to important causes that transcends of not achieving financial profits only, but seeks to protect the environment, to support the charities and take responsibility upon itself for the future generations. He also added, “We hope that all major companies in the Kingdom of Bahrain follow GARMCO’s footsteps in this regards, as these companies have a major influence in Bahrain’s economy. These companies have a large number of employees and workers; therefore, it has more of an influence and an impact when it comes to the awareness role it plays and the influence it has on its worker and employees where this influence will reflect on the employees’ families and therefore Bahrain’s society as a whole”.
GCCC CEO further explained, “We are fully prepared to provide logistical support to the public and private sectors in the areas that are fundamentally linked to the principles of social responsibility”. He also added, “What we are investing in today regarding all our awareness efforts will undoubtedly have a positive impact on Bahrain’s economy and its prosperity in the future”.

He continues to explain, “The Company’s employees are a dynamic asset in GARMCO’s development, that is why we have partnered with Gulf City Cleaning Company to provide us with the special bins for sorting plastics waste that are located throughout the plants to ensure the employees and workers participation in this drive.”

He also added, “For years, people have been disposing all their waste without sorting it or thinking of recycling it as an option, changing this mindset and changing the behavior and practice when it comes to recycling will take a long time, this is why it is important to start ourselves with this change as its considered as a change of lifestyle which will result to a positive impact on our society and our future generations.”, Essa added.
